INTERVIEW

Meet with Salone's young film sensation - Aissatou

Aminata (Aissatou Bah) put up a tough performance in the movie

Days after the launching of Jimmy Bangura’s latest movie ‘Aminata’ our Managing Editor, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla (De Monk), talks to the young, promising debutant actress Aissatou Bah, who plays the role of Aminata for major parts of the film:

KES: How were you chosen for the role of Aminata?

Emmm, I’m a great fan of Uncle Jimmy and we like talk... I was around his office one day and just thought I should stop by and say hello. He had this script on his table and he talked about him trying to do this movie... Then he asked me to read a few lines. I did and he was like ''Aye, why didnt I think of you all this while?'' He told the crew about me and I was invited for an audition because they had already chosen somebody else... Luckily, I was preferred.

As your screen acting debut, how will you describe the challenge?

You know, when you have something in you, you don’t have to force it out. It just flows..... It wasn’t an easy experience but it was good. I had to wake up very very early in the mornings at most times and come on, that wasn’t easy. Uncle Jimmy is one strict director if you don’t know; he never allowed me to use my phone when I am on set. Can you imagine that.....? Newayz, it was a good one and I am glad I was a part of this production.

In the midst of such a star-studded cast how did you cope?

Humblness is a vital tool for success.... Amidst all these wonderful people, I subdued and learnt a whole lot.

Do you have any previous acting experience, say theatre?

I love acting so I did a little bit of it when I was in primary and secondary school. I remember, in 2004 I played the role of Eve in a play tittled ‘Adam and Eve’ for our Prize Givivng and Speech Day ceremony. I was highly appreciated.

You've being hailed as perhaps the most outstanding character in 'Aminata'. What do you think?

Well..., I think it’s the talent....

How do you appreciate your role as Aminata?

I do appreciate it a lot because I was given the opportunity to show what I’ve got.

Does your role in the film influence you in any way in the real world?

Yes it does. It is a motivation to settle for more in life….

You were at the premier of 'Aminata' last Saturday at the Miatta Conference Hall. How did you feel watching yourself on screen?

Wow….. I was like ‘oh ma God, that’s me!’ It’s a dream coming true....

Do you feel strongly about the central theme the movie is trying to put across?

AMINATA’s theme is indeed a strong one. These issues are all over Africa and it’s heart rendering to see girls suffer. There is a lot to learn, so go grab your copy.

What is your best moment shooting 'Aminata'?

The whole shooting process was a good one.

 Any odd moment?

Odd moment? Yep, I fell twice in the stream….

Which character do you like best in 'Aminata' and why?

Aminata. Well, that’s because she’s determined and focussed.

 What is your dream?

Professionally to be one of the best broadcasters and actresses in the world.

Any other comment you wish to make about you and the film?

Just wana use this opportunity to say thanks to God for the talent; Uncle Jimmy for giving me the opportunity and my dad- Mr Abubakarr Bah, and my mum- Mrs Fatmata Conteh, for allowing me to do this.
