Celtel holds 1st Own. A Business draw in Bo

By Muctaru Wurie

The start of the much awaited Own. A Business promotion by the nation’s leading mobile telecom, Celtel- Sierra Leone, started last Saturday at the heart of Bo town in the Celtel Shop at Bojon Street.

The promotion, which was launched some two weeks ago by the Minister of Trade and Industry Alimamy P. Koroma in Freetown, offers Celtel subscribers the unique opportunity to win a shop paid for by Celtel with a Le20 million worth of goods of the winner’s choice and an extra Le5million cash as added capital.

The draw, which commenced after an earlier rally by Celtel throughout Bo town, attracted large crowds most of whom were Celtel subscribers. They were eager to know whether they have won one of the many prizes on offer.

Since this was the first weekly draws only the other prizes including rice, mobile phones, 5000 unit top up cards, Le500, 000 and Le1 million cash were on offer. It’s the grand monthly draws that offer the shops which will be won by four subscribers in each of the four provinces in Sierra Leone.

Welcoming Celtel subscribers and the people of Bo to the draw, the new regional Manager of Celtel- Southern Province, Yousef Bockarie, said Celtel has lived up to its promise of making people’s life better in Sierra Leone.

“This time we’ve chosen to give away shops and we hope that it will benefit our subscribers and improve not only their lives but that of the communities in which they belong also,” he said.

He also affirmed the national importance of Celtel, noting that the mobile company is believes that Freetown is not Sierra Leone. He said they do not only cover over 60% of the country, but that they hope to share the quality services and products of Celtel throughout the entire nation. He called on the people of the provinces to make good use of the amazing and efficient services Celtel is offering them in order to augment the development of their societies.

The draw, which was done on a separate basis starting with the Southern Provinces, was staged by the new Celtel Sales and Distribution Manager, Western Area- Horace Dove-Pratt, who called on a member of the public to kick- start the first draw for the five mobile phones on offer. A Celtel subscriber in the crowd stepped forward and clicked the computer mouse for the first draw. Unfortunately the first three lucky Celtel numbers that appeared were all off. And the rules of the draw say that if a subscriber’s phone is off he/she must be disqualified and another draw should be held instead.

The first lucky subscriber of the day, whose phone was on, was Adama- a resident of Bo town with phone number 076-409852. There were scenes of excitement from then on when several subscribers celebrated as they received news of being a lucky winner.

A lucky subscriber who won Le1 million, Fanta Mansaray, thought  the MC was joking and said that it simply unbelievable that she had won Le1 million on a Saturday afternoon for only using a Le3,000 top up card.
